Easy to use and money saverWe have been looking for old pictures we knew had been on a family desktop. We found 2 old hard drives in a box and took them to a local PC repair shop to determine if old pictures were on the drives. We were given an estimate of $200 per hard drive for the shop to search. We decided we would rely on memories instead of paying $400. We then came across this item in a buzzfeed list of technology items everyone needs and thought for the price what the heck and ordered. It was so easy to hook up to our current PC and we began searching the old drives only to find out they didn�t have any pictures on them. We discovered a third drive in a drawer and tried again only to find the missing treasure trove of pictures and safely transferred them to the new PC. We would have spent $600 ($200 each for the 3 drives) at the repair shop but instead for less than $30 we have all of our old pictures. We can use this again and again if needed. Love it!

Works as Advertised!I've upgraded my computers over the years and that meant moving up from IDE hard drives to SATA drives. I would put the old IDE drives in a closet and then forget about them. I recently cleaned out the closet and decided to throw the old drives away but I wondered if there was any old files on them that I may like to keep. But I didn't have any way to connect the drives to my computer because IDE doesn't fit SATA connections. I found this adapter on-line that should theoretically connect the drives as external drives and let me see what's on the drives. The adapter is very easy to set up with a USB port and it worked wonderfully! I was able to move old files I wanted to keep off the old drives and on my current hard drive. Now I can destroy the old drives and throw them away.

Wow! Works with IDE and SATA GreatFirst, quick response and delivery. The first HDD I tried was an old SATA drive from my old desktop about 10 years old. Work easily and faster than I remembered. So easy to set up. Next, was the reason I really got it, was the 20+ year old IDE drive. First time I tried, no joy. Did not work, did not recognize the drive. My computer played the little tune to indicate something was connected but no where in my directory was this old drive. I was content, for a while, that it worked so well with the SATA drive. But then for some reason, no idea why, I tried both drives hooked up at the same time. Eureka! both drives showed up with the SATA drive as "G" and the IDE drive as "H". Sure enough, all the files were there and working. I found the really old pictures (1996) I was hoping for and surprised some family. Some EXE files would not execute but I sort of expected that. However, many still worked. I had an old version of MathCad 6.0 that worked wonderfully. I can't express how happy I am with this little inexpensive devise. I would give it 10 stars if I could.

It's possible to read legacy hard drives from old PCs and laptopsOverall, a great product for reading hard drives from old desktop and old laptop. Unfortunately, the instructions did not provide enough information about connecting legacy IDE drives. It's important to connect power cable for IDE drive as shown in attached photo.
